Homocysteine is an amino acid that is rapidly metabolized to the amino acids methionine or cysteine by enzymatic reactions. Saponins are obtained from the Yucca Shidigera plant by chemical-free extraction, using an electric current according to a US patent. The method makes it possible to enrich the extract with certain components, such as terpene saponins. This gives the product the desired composition and up to four times more terpene saponins than sterane.
